How to Overcome Discouragement in Your Life

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

Maybe you are going through discouragement today. The devil may be trying hard to defeat you personally, and you may feel like giving up. Remember that God is with you and He is good. You are deeply valued by Him, and He has a purpose for your life. How can we be strong and of good courage during these times?

I went through a personal season of discouragement when returning to the U.S. after living overseas as a missionary for many years. But God had his purposes in that time that I can see more clearly now. I couldn’t do what I do today without that dark time of discouragement. It was purposeful and brought me far deeper in my spiritual life. It was a very difficult time in my life, but through it I learned some key ways to resist the devil’s attacks.

There are several principles we can apply in our lives in order to overcome discouragement. There are ways we can position our heart in faithful obedience and encouragement in God.
